LIMA — There will be an Aspire program orientation available from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 4, at the Ohio Means Jobs Center, 1501 S. Dixie Highway, Lima.

The program will share the requirements and offerings for the free Aspire program to help anyone 16 and over refresh basic academic skills or further their education.

To get a good job today, you need basic academic and workforce skills. Aspire is a FREE program for anyone 16 and over in the community. Aspire classes are a stepping stone to transition to the next chapter in life. Refresh your basic academic skills in reading, math, or language to help earn your GED or High School Diploma, enter a skills training program at Apollo Career Center, obtain a job, and/or retain your current job. In Lima, we have two Aspire Class locations. One at the Ohio Means Jobs Center (1501 S. Dixie Hwy) and the other at Apollo Career Center (3325 Shawnee Rd.). New Aspire students are required to attend an orientation for entry into their program. Students ages 16-18 must pre-register for orientation. The Ohio Means Jobs Center’s next orientation is Monday February 4th 9:00 a.m. to Noon and Apollo’s is Tuesday, February 5th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon or 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Apollo’s Adult Education Building, Room 562. The orientation will share the requirements and offerings of the FREE Aspire program. Individuals will work one-on-one, in small and large groups, on computers, and Distance Education will also be available to all students.

Test requirements will be shared for those wanting to take the GED® test. The test is made up of four sections, which are Math, Reasoning through Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. The instructors can help prepare students for the test by offering: free pretests, computer instruction, and individual subject instruction to meet the requirements to pass the new GED® test. The test is $120, but an $80 voucher is being offered for students to take the official test.

FREE Aspire instruction is also available for students who have a High School Diploma, but want to update their basic skills, prepare for a job and/or post-secondary instruction.
