BLUFFTON — Jonas Beiler, author and counselor, encouraged first-year Bluffton University students to have civil conversations with people with different views during the beginning of the 2018-19 civic engagement theme of “being respectful in a divided nation.”

Beiler wrote a book about a shooting at an Amish schoolhouse at Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, in 2006 called, “Think No Evil: The Story of the Amish Schoolhouse Shooting,” which was summer reading for first-year students. The book explores the idea of forgiveness.
