LIMA — De’Oshanic Petaway, 15, of Lima, was rewarded Youth Service America’s Everyday Young Hero title due to her work with CeaseFire Lima and her efforts in pushing for dialogue between Lima Police Department officers and young people in the community.

As part of her advocacy work, Petaway hosted events for officers and young people to interact during Halloween and Christmas, and she helped create Lima’s first youth-led food pantry.

Petaway also worked to help establish the Lima Junior City Council so youth can voice their opinions concerning community policies.
