Student Crochet Club started at Heritage Elementary

LIMA — Heritage Elementary School teacher Val Conrad is teaching a group of fourth-graders how to crochet, carrying on a skill her mother taught her.

The club started this winter, as cold temperatures kept students inside for recess. Conrad decided to find something new for students to do during this time. The club currently has five students, with several more expressing interest in wanting to join.

Students watch the YouTube video “Crochet for Beginners” and then get a one-on-one lesson from Conrad.

“It is a fun way to give some of my talent back to the students I teach and a way to get them to see another side of their teacher,” she said.

The club is in need of yarn and is accepting donations, said Conrad.
