LIMA — Freedom Elementary School third-graders in Susan Neumeier’s class are getting a little exercise while helping to purchase meals for malnourished children around the world.
The class is doing a Walk-A-Thon through the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
Through the program, each student received a pedometer to count their steps throughout the day. Depending on the number of steps, a certain number of meals are purchased for children. In just two days, the students earned 26 meals for UNICEF. The program will continue until the end of the school year.
As students rack up miles, they will “travel” to and learn about countries like Haiti and other places UNICEF works in.
