LIMA – The board of directors of the Allen County Children Services has officially announced the hiring of Sarah Newland as the agency’s new director. A hiring committee appointed by the board had recommended Newland for the position earlier this month.
Newland is a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School, John Carroll University and the Ohio Northern University of Law. She is a former assistant Allen County prosecuting attorney who handled legal cases for the Children Services agency.
She’s been serving as interim director since the dismissal of former director Cynthia Scanland in June 2020.
Scanland is currently facing charges of tampering with records, obstructing official business and a dereliction of duty in connection with the criminal case against Jeremy Kindle and Scott Steffes, foster parents who adopted three boys through Children Services.
In July of last year, the two men were indicted on a combined 127 felony sex-related charges.
