LIMA — The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation gave a $3,500 prize to Lima’s Fort Amanda Logistics as part of its annual Safety Innovation Awards.

The joint venture of Noryon and BASF Corporation is a chemical producer of high-quality chelates. The production process used transport screws to move solid product, and cleaning these screws during product changes caused safety exposures, as workers had to remove lids to wash the screws. That exposed workers to unguarded moving machinery, high-pressure water spray and slip hazards.

The company designed custom-made wash lids with Plexiglass windows for inspection and permanently mounted spray nozzles inside. That eliminates contact with moving equipment and exposure to the high-pressure water. The enclosure contains wash water, reducing water use and eliminating slip hazards.
