St. Rita’s internal medicine residency receives initial accreditation

LIMA — Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center has received initial accreditation for its new internal residency program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Next Accreditation System.

The residency is a three-year program for medical students. Applications will be made available in the fall, with the first class slated for July 1, 2020, according to a press release.

“Mercy Health-St. Rita’s is committed to providing the highest level of care to our community both today and in the future,” said Dr. Kevin Casey, regional chief clinical officer for Mercy Health-Lima and the program’s director. “Part of that commitment is to have excellent physicians, and we can think of no better way to ensure excellence than to teach them locally. The approval of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is another milestone as we continue to provide access to more patients as well as improve the health and well-being of our community.”
