CHP announces inpatient hospice reorganization

VAN WERT — Community Health Professionals will wind down operations at its inpatient hospice center in Van Wert, the company announced.

The Van Wert inpatient facility will no longer accept referrals starting April 1, but CHP President and CEO Brent Tow told The Lima News that there will be a transition period after that. CHP will continue in-home hospice care, skilled home care and private duty home care in the area. Inpatient hospice will also continue to be available in Defiance.

“We have been blessed for the past decade to be able to provide families a local inpatient service that’s typically found only in much larger cities, but costs no longer allow us to support both methods of hospice care,” Towe said in a statement announcing the reorganization.

The company is “exploring ways to repurpose the Van Wert inpatient facility as well as nursing and ancillary staff.”

CHP serves 15 counties, including Van Wert, Putnam, Hardin, Allen, Auglaize and Mercer counties.
