State awards two region employers workplace safety grants

COLUMBUS – Two employers in Putnam and Van Wert counties will receive workplace safety grants from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to purchase safety-related equipment.

Among the 38 recipients are the Village of Continental, home to about 1,200 Putnam County residents, and Van Wert County’s Cool Machines Inc., which produces portable insulation machines, according to the BWC.

The grants were awarded to 38 employers, totaling $945,000.

The BWC hopes that by helping employers buy new equipment they may reduce workplace-related injuries and workers’ compensation claims.

Continental Village is set to receive $27,074.25 for equipment the BWC says will “improve the trenching and roadway maintenance process.”

Cool Machines will receive $28,928.42 for equipment “to reduce the risk of injury related to push/pull, manual materials handling.”
