Area woman celebrates 50 years as music, choir director at local church

LIMA — Margaret Lewis celebrated her 50th anniversary as music and choir director for First Evangelical and Reformed Church last Sunday with a special performances and a luncheon after church service.

Lewis applied for the position in 1968 while she was working at Allen East schools as a music teacher in 1968. She also taught at Shawnee schools and continues to work there as an accompanist/choral assistant.

Lewis has also given private lessons to aspiring artists since 1994. She played the bassoon with the Lima Symphony for five years and currently plays the clarinet in the Lima Area Concert Band, where she began playing in 1976.
