Newsweek names Whirlpool a top-ranked company environmentally

OTTAWA — Whirlpool was recently recognized as a 2017 Newsweek top-ranked company for its environmental performance.

Newsweek Green Ratings ranked the company at 52 and 82 on the national and global listings.

“This distinction is a testament to our commitment to sustainability, which spans our supply chain and sustainable material sourcing initiatives, to our goal of sending zero waste to landfills, and manufacturing products that have a low environmental impact for consumers to use in their own homes,” said Whirpool director of global sustainability, Ron Voglewede in a news release.

The company’s ranking was not its only accomplishment. It has just completed construction for its wind farms in Ottawa and Marion and looks to build more throughout the U.S. The corporation expects to be one of the largest users of on-site wind energy in the U.S., according to a news release.
