Legal aid firm gets new director

COLUMBUS — Advocates for Basic Legal Equality has a new executive director, with former Ohio Poverty Law Center in Columbus Executive Director Janet Hales accepting the position Nov. 1.

Hales is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and earned her law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. She practiced with the Toledo firms of Cooper, Walinski & Cramer, LPA and Eastman & Smith Ltd., later joining Legal Aid of Western Ohio.

ABLE provides free legal services to low-income residents in 32 counties in northwest and west central Ohio, as well as to agricultural workers and immigration clients.
