CELINA — Ron Hall of Celina was not particularly looking for his 1982 Z28 Camaro when he found it 15 years ago in Decatur, Indiana.
However, the price was right, and he saw the beauty underneath the mess that he purchased.
“It was in need of a lot of TLC,” Hall said. “It was out in the yard and I just spotted it.”
As it turned out, the car was being sold by a friend of the previous owner, who had drove it back and forth to Texas while in the military. Hall bought the vehicle and began restorations.
It needed a motor, a transmission, a paint job, a new interior, just about everything,” Hall said.
It is not the first Camaro that Hall has owned. He has owned a 1969, which was wrecked, a 1984 and a 1992 model.
“I have just always liked Camaros,” Hall said. “I enjoy the style, and the price was right on this one.”
Hall said he also enjoys the handling and performance of Camaros. He said the 1982 version was especially nice, and was tagged as the Indy Pace Car. However, he isn’t about to let the car constantly sit in a garage collecting dust as a collector vehicle.
“I jump in it and drive it just about anywhere,” Hall said.
Hall has traveled the U.S. in the vehicle going to car shows, including up and down the East Coast and as far as Colorado.
