PERRY TOWNSHIP — A Monday morning residential fire in Perry Township claimed the life of a female resident of the home.

Heather Lee, an investigator with the Allen County Coroners Office, said Charlotte Patton, 53, died in the blaze.

According to Chief Justin Roberts of the Perry Township Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 116 Colony Trail at 7:12 a.m. Monday for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire coming from three sides of the structure. While battling the fire it was determined that one occupant of the home was unaccounted for. Crews made entry into the rear of the structure and located Patton’s body.

Firefighters received mutual aid, which was received from Bath Township Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to assist with the investigation. Crews remained on the scene for approximately five hours.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and the origin of the fire was found to be in the living room in or around a reclining chair, Roberts said. The structure was deemed a total loss and the estimated value of the structure and contents is $20,000.
