INDIAN LAKE — Larry and Tammy Fleming, of Indian Lake, brought their 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu Convertible to the Downtown Lima BBQ and Car Show. The Flemings have owned it since February of 2021.

“She always wanted a convertible and I wanted an old GTO. This was more in our price range,” said Fleming.

The Flemings purchased their car off Marketplace from a man who lived in Findlay.

In 1966, the Chevrolet Malibu name was a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle. The Malibu trim option was the leading seller of the Chevelle in 1966, with a production run of 241,600. The appeal came due to a various assortment of standard options, and because it had the highest number of model options with the 4-door sport sedan, 2-door sport coupe, convertible, 4-door sedan and 2-seat station wagon. The Malibu became a model on its own in 1978.

The sales brochure read, “Chevelle for ‘66 is marked by a pleasing mid-size, overall excellence and value.”

The 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle was GM’s best car in 1966, surpassing the GTOs place as GM’s best muscle car.

“We have Bluetooth speakers and they run off our phone,” said Fleming.

The Flemings enjoy their car, as they drive it.

“We drive it a lot,” said Fleming. “But only in good weather.”
