LIMA — The Greater Lima Region Park & Amphitheater project is $80,000 and several procedural hurdles closer to happening.

During Monday’s meeting, members of the Lima Rotary Club got an update on the project from Tim Stanford.

“(Lima) City Council approved the land transfer from Rotary to the city,” Stanford said. “There’s a memorandum of understanding between the city, the (Veterans Memorial) Civic Center, the Greater Lima Region and Rotary has also been signed. We can give it a thumbs up from the city auditor and city council to put the project out to bid.”

Checks were also presented to the Lima Rotary Club totaling $80,000. A check for $50,000 came from AEP Ohio, $10,000 from Premier Bank and $20,000 from the Lima Ford Engine Plant.

”It’s exciting for AEP Ohio to invest in a project that will not only create jobs, but also a thriving entertainment destination for years to come,” said John Recker, AEP Ohio customer service manager for the Lima area.

Stanford expects a contractor for the project to be selected before the end of the year, with a start date soon thereafter.

Completion of the project, which lies between Elm and Spring streets, is expected by November 2022.

“The Civic Center is anxiously awaiting a time when they can start booking acts for the spring of 2023,” Stanford said.
