ONU sees high student turnout in ‘20 election

ADA — Student voting at Ohio Northern University reached 65% during the 2020 presidential election, a 12-point increase over the previous presidential election, according to a new report from the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education.

“For most, this is their first experience voting and establishing this habit early is instrumental in connecting one another to the democratic process,” Dr. Robert Alexander, a professor and founding director of the Institute for Civics and Public Policy at ONU, said in a press release Monday.

Nationally, 66% of college students voted in the 2020 presidential election. The highest voting rates were reported by private universities, while the most reliable voters were multiracial, Black and white women.
