MULTIPLE VIRUS DEATHS REPORTED THROUGHOUT REGION

There were multiple deaths attributed to COVID-19 in four out of five area counties added to the state’s tally since Tuesday, according to statistics released Friday by the Ohio Department of Health.

Allen County reported three new deaths, according to the ODH. Allen County Public Health put the loss at much higher, with 14 new deaths: a 45-year-old and a 61-year-old man on Oct. 8; a 37-year-old female on Oct. 11; a 54-year-old female, a 64-year-old male, a 68-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman, an 80-year-old female and a 98-year-old man on Oct. 12; A 52-year-old female, 58-year-old male and a 77-year-old man on Oct. 13; and a 51-year-old female and 55-year-old man on Oct. 14.

Auglaize County had five new deaths, according to the ODH. The five newest deaths included a woman in her 70s on Oct. 6, a man older than 80 on Oct. 2, a man older than 80 and a man in his 70s on Sept. 30 and a man older than 80 on Sept. 29.

Hardin County had two new deaths, including a man in his 70s Oct. 2 and a woman older than 80 Oct. 1.

Van Wert County had four new deaths: A female in her 70s Oct. 4, a man in his 70s Sept. 30, a woman in her 80s Sept. 26 and a woman in her 50s Sept. 24.

There’s frequently a gap before the ODH confirms a COVID-19-related death. The state updates death tallies twice a week, usually on Tuesdays and Fridays.

• The state updated its school reporting Thursday. In Allen County, Shawnee had 17 new student cases and two new staff cases. Apollo Career Center had 13 new student cases. Lima schools had 12 new student cases and four new staff cases. Elida had 11 new student cases. Allen East had eight new student cases and one new staff case. Bluffton had seven new student cases and one new staff case. Perry had three new student cases and one new staff case. Spencerville had three new student cases. Bath had two new student cases and one new staff case. Delphos St. John’s had two new student cases. West Central Learning Academy II had one new student case. Temple Christian had one new staff case.

In Auglaize County, there were no new student or staff cases at area schools.

In Putnam County, Ottoville had five new student cases. Leipsic and Ottawa-Glandorf had three new student cases each. Jennings had two new student cases. Pandora-Gilboa and Putnam County Educational Service Center each had one new student case.
