LIMA — Activate Allen County held its final block party of the year Saturday at Martin Luther King Junior Center Park.

“This is our fourth and final community block party that we’ve had over the summer and fall months here for Lima residents,” said Kayla Monfort, co-director for Activate Allen County.

Monfort says they hope to reach out to the community through these block parties.

“Our goal is really to be integrated into the neighborhoods to provide community resources, have our vendors being out here in our neighborhoods with some live entertainment, some family-friendly activities, just for families to be able to walk or be close to their house and feel really comfortable engaging back with the community.”

Monfort says activities like this have been rare since we’ve been in a pandemic.

“It’s been a long time here with the pandemic and we’re just trying to make sure that folks know where they can go to get resources, they can also get COVID vaccinations out in our block party. So it’s really just a place for folks to kind of just be a part of the Lima community and be part of their neighborhood,” Monfort said.

Monfort says the vendors were a big part of making this summer’s block parties a success.

“We had Stedic music, he’s providing our live entertainment at our block parties. He’s been great. We also have Mercy Health providing health screenings in a different variety of ways. We also have our COVID vaccinations being provided by Paramount Health Advantage. WOCAP has also been out here as well as Ohio Can and Central State University Extension. the West Ohio Food Bank has been a great partner as well providing food distribution as an extra incentive for folks to come out and enjoy the day with us,” Monfort said.

Monfort is hoping they’ll be able to continue the block parties next year but until then people can check out the Community Expo.

“It’s happening on November 20. That’s at the Civic Center so that’s our larger event. So COVID pending we are planning to have that as well but then we’ll plan to bring back our block parties as our outdoor events next year,” Monfort said.
