Troopers investigate fatal crash in Perry Township


PERRY TOWNSHIP — The Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash from Friday night.

According to a news release at 9:06 p.m. Friday, troopers were called to a crash at state Route 117 and Thayer Road.

A 2017 Freightliner, operated by Steven Evans, 52, of Lima was eastbound on state Route 117 when he stopped in the eastbound lane and exited the truck to look at possible vehicle damage. While looking at the possible damage, Evans was on the left side of the vehicle, in the westbound lane. A white 2001 Honda Accord, driven by Brandon James, 20, of Waynesfield was westbound and struck Evans. Evans was also struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Jade Smith, 18, of Wapakoneta.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. James was treated at the scene for minor injuries and Smith was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
