WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Historical Society has received $11,000 in grant funding from the Ohio Humanities Council. The grant will allow the historical society to continue and expand its heritage tourism initiative entitled “Auglaize County: IN MOTION,” which highlights the many museums and sites in Auglaize County that reflect transportation themes.
Displays include those related to Neil Armstrong, the Miami and Erie Canal, railroads and settlers from Ladbergen, Germany, to New Knoxville.
Products to be created with the Heritage Tourism grant will allow the implementation of advanced technology to better share the story behind the facts at various museums and historic sites in Auglaize County through QR codes. Markers or signs at historic sites will allow smartphone users to link to an individual page for each location. Content will be linked to the Auglaize County Historical Society website or partner organizations, according to a historical society spokesperson.
