WAPAKONETA — Spring is in the air, and that means wedding season can’t be too far behind.

The Quellhorst Farm Venue, 07945 state Route 197, Wapakoneta, held an open house Sunday to give brides- and grooms-to-be a look at the unique venue and to talk to caterers and cake vendors.

Pam Quellhorst says they are entering their fourth wedding season, and their weekends are filling up fast.

“Todd and I will be married five years this August, and he owned the farm already. The barn was sitting here with all kinds of stuff in it — cars, junk, things like that. So he kept saying we want to clean this out, and let’s do something with it,” Pam Quellhorst said.

They considered some type of drive-thru or a craft barn, but they knew that a wedding venue was the ideal fit for the barn, which was built in 1908.

“It’s an actual Sears kit barn,” Pam Quellhorst said.

The upstairs can accommodate up to 140 people, while the downstairs reception area can seat 150 people.

It took a lot of work to get the old hog barn converted into a wedding venue, spending hours bleaching the wood and building a staircase to the second floor.

“I never thought that it would turn into something like this,” Todd Quellhorst said.

The barn has a kitchen, an area for the bride and her party to get ready and an area for the groom and groomsmen to play some billiards while they wait.

There’s also a room with all sorts of decorations the bride and groom can choose from for their big day.

“This is our ‘something borrowed’ room, and all this is included in the rental fee. So they can use whatever they want to in here,” Pam Quellhorst said.

The venue manager-decorator is LaDonna Roys. This is her second season here.

She still gets chills when the bride and groom see the facility decorated for their wedding.

“This is my heart. This is my passion. When I decorate for a wedding and when I see them come in the front door, I’m like, ‘Oh boy, I did it right,’” Roys said. “It’s very exciting to me. I love this. I wouldn’t trade this for a million dollars.”
