Car strikes juvenile on bike in Kalida


KALIDA — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash between a motor vehicle and a bicycle.

It happened at 7:38 p.m. Friday at the intersection of East North Street and 4th Street in the Village of Kalida.

According to a news release, Michelle Casarez, 45, was traveling northwest on East North Street when she slowed to allow a group of juveniles on their bikes trying to cross East North Street.

She allowed them to cross but didn’t see one of the juveniles resulting in her striking an unnamed 9-year-old.

The juvenile was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with non-life-threatening injuries.
