Orange barrels likely will be coming to a road near you.
The Ohio Department of Transportation kicked off its 2021 construction season Wednesday by announcing plans to spend more than $1.9 billion on 956 projects statewide. More than 4,600 miles of pavement and 800 bridges are targeted for work.
Plans for Allen County include work on the Slabtown Road bridge over U.S. 30 and the Shawnee roundabout.
Projects for Allen, Auglaize, Putnam and Van Wert counties are listed below:
ALLEN COUNTY
April to July
• Reconstruct a portion of the Slabtown Road bridge deck over U.S. 30.
Project Cost: $615,000
Full closure of Slabtown Road. Traffic will be detoured. Temporary lane closures on U.S. 30 for various phases of
the project.
April to October
• Resurface two miles of Fifth Street (includes State Route 66 and State Route 190) between Menke Street and Lehman Road in Delphos. Work also includes traffic signal upgrades, curb replacement and sidewalk installation.
Project Cost: $4.0 million
Daily lane closures for local traffic on Fifth Street. Through and truck traffic will be detoured during various phases
of the project.
May to August
• Resurface two miles of State Route 66 between the Auglaize County line and the north corporation limit of Spencerville.
• Resurface 13 miles of State Route 117 between the Van Wert County line and Leonard Avenue in Lima.
Project Cost: $3.3 million.
Daily lane closures on State Route 66 and State Route 117.
June to August
• Resurface 1.5 miles of I-75 between the Auglaize County line and the Fourth Street interchange.
Project Cost: $450,000
Traffic Impacts: Overnight lane closures on I-75
June to October
• Resurface 0.2 miles of State Route 103 between Huber Street and County Line Road in Bluffton.
Project Cost: $1.44 million
Traffic Impacts: Daily lane closures on State Route 103.
August to November
• Construct an R-CUT at the Thayer Road intersection with U.S. 30.
• Construct culde-sacs at the Mayberry Road and Cool Road intersections with U.S. 30.
Project Cost: $2.3 million
Traffic Impacts: Lane closures on U.S. 30. Detour traffic on Thayer, Mayberry and Cool Roads.
August to October
• Upgrade signing and pavement markings at the Shawnee Road roundabout with Ft. Amanda Road.
Project Cost: $209,000
Traffic Impacts: Temporary lane closures.
• Install rumble strips on State Route 309 in Allen and Hardin counties from Lima to Kenton.
Project Cost: $1.7 million

• Resurface seven miles of U.S. 30 between Middle Point-Wetzel Road and West Lincoln Highway.

• Replace culvert under State Route 613 near the County Road 16 intersection.
Project Cost: $283,000
Traffic Impacts: Traffic will be detoured.

• Resurface 0.8 miles of U.S. 224 through Ottoville between the bridge west of Auglaize Street and Walt Street.

June to September
• Replace culvert under State Route 109 located three miles north of Ottawa.
Project Cost: $356,000
Traffic Impacts: State Route 109 traffic will be detoured.
June to October
• Resurface 1.5 miles of U.S. 224 between the west corp limit of Ottawa and the railroad tracks east of Moe Street.
• Resurface 1.2 miles of State Route 15 between Putnam Parkway and Main Street in Ottawa.
• Resurface 1.2 miles of State Route 65 between the Ottawa River bridge and Blackthorn Drive in Ottawa.
• Resurface 0.6 miles of State Route 109 between State Route 65 and the north corplimit of the village of Ottawa.
• Resurface 1.3 miles of State Route 189 between the west corp limit and the east corp limit of Fort Jennings.
• Resurface 0.5 miles of State Route 190 between the south corp limit of Fort Jennings and State Route 634.
• Resurface 0.3 miles of State Route 190 near its intersection with County Road Q.
Project Cost: $1.4 million
