AKRON – Akron is seeking public comments on a $3.5 million plan to replace the Goodyear Boulevard Bridge over the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad on the city’s East Side.

Comments must be submitted by May 3 to Michael Teodecki at MTeodecki@akronohio.gov or Department of Public Service – Akron Engineering Bureau, 166 South High Street, Room 701, Akron, Ohio, 44308.

The existing 68-foot steel beam bridge was built in 1970, according to the city. Under the plan, it would be replaced with a 48-foot pre-cast concrete arch. The city said the pre-cast concrete arch minimizes construction time and requires less maintenance than steel beam bridges.

The proposal does not call for changing the width of the two-lane road or the five-foot sidewalks on each side.

The city said it is seeking public comments “about the social environmental and economic impacts of this proposed project,” including information about archaeological or historic sites in the area.
