Mystery driver sought after couple hurt in motorcycle crash

COSHOCTON COUNTY — A Waynesburg couple was returning home on their motorcycle when a car struck it and left them for dead in Coshocton County, a family member said.

Shawn O’Neill, 57, and his wife, Robin, 58, remain in critical condition with multiple injuries in the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on state Route 751. The O’Neills had been riding in central Ohio on their 2008 Harley-Davidson and were headed home, their son James said.

According to the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office, a dark Nissan Altima was southbound on Route 751, went left of center and struck the O’Neills’ motorcycle. The car drove away, deputies said in a news release.

The O’Neills were going northbound on Rt. 751 when the collision forced them off the roadway into a guardrail. The motorcycle hit the rail and landed in a nearby ditch, deputies said.

The O’Neills, who their son said were not wearing helmets, were thrown off their motorcycle. Both were flown to OSU Medical Center with multiple serious head, back and leg injuries.
