LIMA — Allen County Republicans have selected Krista Bohn to serve as Allen County Treasurer in a vote Wednesday night at the Allen County Job and Family Services Event Center.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity to serve the public and the county and the Republican Party,” Bohn said.
Bohn was picked by Allen County Commissioners to serve as interim treasurer earlier this month after Evalyn Shaffner resigned from the position, citing that “after 25 years with Allen County, it is time for me to semi-retire,” Shaffner said in her resignation letter.
“Evalyn was an amazing treasurer that taught me a lot. She was able to teach me a lot of the day-to-day functions of the treasurer’s office and I appreciate that and I wish her well in her retirement,” Bohn said.
Bohn was previously the chief deputy of finance in the treasurer’s office and is looking forward to the new challenge with a staff she’s already familiar with.
“We have an amazing staff that has a wealth of knowledge so I’m just going to focus on lowering our delinquent rates and increasing our interest for the county,” Bohn said.
The Allen East High School graduate has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Northwestern Ohio.
She was one of three people the Republican Party was considering for the position.
“All three of them, quite frankly, were very good candidates,” said Keith Cheney, Allen County Republican Party Chair. “The committee made a decision, I believe, based on the experience that Krista brings to the office, having served as a chief deputy and quite frankly over the last number of months, due to some health issues when the treasurer was out of the office, Krista assumed all of the responsibilities and just did a fantastic job.”
