LIMA — Twelve individuals from the Greater Lima region have been announced as Jefferson Award Winners for their outstanding volunteer service.
The 2021 Jefferson Award adult winners are Gregory Bukowski, Mark Bishop, Emmanuel Curtis, Lori Griffiths, Donna Grimm, Ken Hall, Michael Mullen and Jerome O’Neal. The 2021 youth winners are Dominic Adkins, Michaela Cosart, Braydon DeWitt and Reed Malcolm.
The Jefferson Awards is a national program founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Sen. Robert Taft Jr. and Sam Beard and brought to the Lima region in 2001. Today, the local Jefferson Awards recognizes individuals from Allen, Putnam, Auglaize, Van Wert, Hardin and Hancock counties.
Each year the longstanding national program awards individuals who give their time and effort to improve their communities on a volunteer basis.
Winners will be recognized this year through a live-streamed banquet on Hometown Stations’ Facebook page at 7 p.m. on April 22 during National Volunteer Week.
At that event the winners will be recognized for their outstanding achievements. One of the 12 winners will receive the added recognition of being named as the local representative to the National Jefferson Awards Ceremony.
The Jefferson Awards are sponsored by Husky Energy, Your Hometown Stations, The Lima News and United Way of Greater Lima. A donation to a non-profit organization of each adult winner’s choice is sponsored each year by Alberta Lee, a long-time Lima resident. The James E. and Sandra Monfort family sponsored a donation to each of the youth winner’s non-profit organization of choice.
