Trooper’s car hit in 3-vehicle crash on Interstate 75

WAPAKONETA — A three-vehicle crash, including a patrol car, closed portions of Interstate 75 Friday evening.

No one was injured.

At about 4:55 p.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Ryan Lamarr was conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of the northbound lanes in Auglaize County, milepost 116. He was not in his car, as he was talking with the driver he had stopped, according to a news release from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Two vehicles approaching the area of the traffic stop attempted to merge into the same lane, drove onto the shoulder and hit the patrol car.

Gerald D. Pestana, 53, of Middletown, who was driving a semi, was cited for assured clear distance. The other vehicle was a Jeep SUV driven by Rachel M. Ott, 24, of Beavercreek. All three vehicles had to be towed.

The right lane of the interstate was closed for about two hours as multiple agencies assisted.

The post asks that drivers use caution when troopers have activated lights and slow down and move over.
