LIMA — A thief made off with more than $25,000 of jewelry and perfume in a daring early morning break-in Thursday at Kohl’s department store.

Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2750 Elida Road business shortly after 4:30 a.m. Thursday in reference to motion detection inside the store. Upon their arrival, deputies observed broken glass in front of the business.

After the business was cleared, employees discovered jewelry missing, along with cologne and perfume. Detectives responded to the area to process the scene. Throughout their investigation detectives tracked foot prints for approximately a half-mile crossing over waterways and open fields. They eventually located a black bag believed to be used in the crime. Inside the bag deputies discovered an estimated $26,000 in merchandise from the business.

Detective Justin Kirk said investigators are uncertain if the merchandise found in the bag is everything that was taken from the retailer.

“We’re not sure at this time,” Kirk said. “We’re still waiting for Kohl’s to get us an inventory list of the items that were stolen.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kirk at the Allen County Sheriff’s Office at 419-993-1431 or 419-905-5212.
