COLUMBUS — A pair of area Republican state representatives, Craig Riedel of Defiance and Susan Manchester of Waynesfield, introduced a bill in the Ohio House that allows political subdivisions, special districts and state institutions of higher education the permissive choice to apply the Prevailing Wage Law to public improvement projects.

While paying workers on projects a prevailing wage, it helps the workers earn a fair wage but increases the cost of local projects, which are passed on to taxpayers.

Under the proposal, the bill increases the threshold for prevailing wage mandates for new construction projects from $250,000 to $500,000.

The bill now awaits referral to a House committee.
