LIMA — A Lima man was taken into custody on drug and firearm charges Tuesday after the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force and Allen County SWAT team executed a search warrant at a McDonel Street residence.
McKenzie Kirkman, 41, was booked into the Allen County jail on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine in excess of 100 grams, a felony of the first degree. The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges expected to be presented for consideration to a future session of the Allen County grand jury.
During a traffic stop involving Kirkman on Tuesday, a Lima Police Department K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics. Kirkman fled on foot and, while running, discarded a large object and threw it in the street. The object recovered by investigators was found to be approximately 258 grams of suspected cocaine.
A search warrant related to that incident was executed at 381 S. McDonnell St., Lima, and yielded suspected marijuana, approximately 70 grams of suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, one stolen handgun and $10,164 in U.S. currency.
