DELPHOS — The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on senior citizens in area nursing homes. Many of them face isolation from their families due to health guidelines.

Celebrations, a business in Delphos, is helping to bring a little joy into their lives through the Adopt A Grandparent campaign, which is a nationwide effort.

“A bunch of us balloon professionals all across the country kind of got together and decided we needed to do something just to help lift the spirits of the people living in the nursing homes and assisted living places,” said Tammy Corzine, owner of Celebrations. “We decided we were going to do this Adopt A Grandparent program and get the community involved in it to sponsor these Balloon Buddies. They’re little balloon people that we create.”

On Friday, they delivered their first batch of Balloon Buddies to some residents at the Sarah Jane Living Center on Fifth Street in Delphos.

“It went really well. It was the smallest of the three facilities we’re working on right now. So it is right down the street from us. It was really easy for us to do. The activities director met us outside, we have everything bagged up and we just pass those bags off to the activities director they can take them inside. Some different facilities have different quarantine policies. Some of them will keep them in the bags for a day or two, and then pass them out just to mitigate any COVID, others, Sarah Jane, did not have any quarantine period. They just gave them right to the resident,” Corzine said.

Celebrations is hoping to get 158 sponsorships to help provide Balloon Buddies to not only the Sarah Jane Living Center but also The Meadows of Delphos and Vancrest of Delphos.

“For $15, you can sponsor one. The goal is to get each resident at every facility adopted. And then once they’re adopted, we will do a bulk delivery, and deliver these Balloon Buddies to the activities director and then they distribute them to the residents,” Corzine said.

You can go to their website celebrationsohio.com, send an email to celebrate@CelebrationsOhio.com, call their store at 419-695-4455 or you can stop in their store at 237 W. Second Street in Delphos.
