ADA — A Lima man was pronounced dead early Monday morning at a private residence in Ada, the victim of an apparent stabbing incident.
According to a statement released Monday by Ada Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger, Rodney A. Slechter, 49, died at 345 W. Montford Ave., Ada, following an altercation with another male who was found by police at that location.
Shortly after midnight Monday, officers of the Ada Police Department were called to the mobile home in reference to a disturbance involving a knife. Officers rendered first aid but were unable to revive Slechter. The other male, who Harnishfeger did not identify, was transported to a Lima Memorial Health System, where he was treated for injuries suffered during the altercation.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues, Harnishfeger said.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification and Hardin County Coroner’s Office investigator have been called to assist the Ada Police Department in processing the scene.
Homicides are rare in Hardin County, according to statistics from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports. Ada hasn’t reported a homicide since it began sharing its numbers with the FBI in 2009. There have been just eight homicides in Hardin County since 1986, according to FBI data. The last homicide recorded was by the Kenton Police Department in 2015.
