LIMA — The Greater Lima Region Amphitheater and Park is on track to start and finish construction by the end of 2021, according to the Lima Rotary Club.
“The architectural and engineering plans are being completed now and should be finished by the end of February,” Amphitheater Committee Co-Chair Tracie Sanchez said in a press release. “We plan to go out to bid to select our contractor as soon as the architectural drawings are complete. We are very excited to announce that construction should begin this spring or summer.”
A grand opening of the completed park, set southeast of Town Square, is currently scheduled for this November.
Currently set to cost around $2.8 million, the cost for the amphitheater has risen by roughly $400,000 due to an expanded concept of the stage. The new design will feature backstage spaces for performers and updated sound, lighting and video for more varied performances.
“With these upgrades, the amphitheater will be able to accommodate performances ranging from the Lima Symphony Orchestra to rock bands to Encore Theater,” Sanchez said.
Art organizations and the Lima Rotary Club plan on actively raising the additional $400,000 while moving ahead with planning and construction.
