LIMA — Nominations are being accepted for the 2021 Jefferson Awards for Public Service.
The program recognizes those who give their time and effort through volunteering in their community.
Up to eight adults and four youth — under 18 years old — will be recognized locally, with one of them chosen to represent the area at the national Jefferson Awards dinner in Washington D.C.
Jefferson Award nominees will be chosen from Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Hancock, Putnam and Van Wert counties.
Local high schools and colleges are encouraged to nominate students for the four youth awards.
Local winners will be recognized during a virtual event the week of April 19, which is National Volunteer Week.
Each local winner will receive a monetary award for a non-profit of their choice.
Alberta Lee is donating $350 for each of the eight local adult winners, while Sandra Monfort is donating $250 for each local youth winner.
Forms can be located online at www.unitedwaylima.org, or you can go to the United Way office at 616. S. Collett St. in Lima. The form is also attached to this story on LimaOhio.com.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 17.
The local Jefferson Awards are sponsored by The United Way of Greater Lima, The Lima News, Husky Lima Refinery and Your Hometown Stations.
