Lima council tables vote on quarantine facility

By Sam Shriver -

LIMA — Lima council members at their Monday night regular meeting tabled an ordinance for their amended application for 2020-2021 CDBG/Home funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Instead, there will be a Council of the Whole meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, where they can discuss the matter more fully.

At issue is a request to use $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant dollars toward an isolation and quarantine facility for Lima’s homeless.

The Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize & Hardin Counties is seeking the funds for the facility which likely wouldn’t have been built until after the pandemic was over.

The ordinance has yet to be voted on a third and final time.

On the first reading, it didn’t get enough votes to pass an emergency.

On the second reading, it only garnered three votes for it and four votes against it, with 6th Ward Lima Councilman Derry Glenn abstaining.
