LEIPSIC — Another area downtown building is heavily damaged by fire, this time in Leipsic.
Fire crews got the call at 8:31 a.m. Sunday that Smokin’ B’s Bar & Grill, 125 E. Main St., Leipsic, was on fire.
According to a news release, the Leipsic Fire Department was on the scene within a matter of minutes and took an aggressive interior approach at attacking the fire. Firefighters were immediately met with heavy smoke and fire in the rear of the bar area.
“Sadly we must bring you more bad news for 2020,” according to Smokin’ B’s Facebook page. “This morning we received a phone call that Smokin’ B’s was on fire. Damage is great. We will be closed until we figure out what we are going to do.”
There’s been no word on what caused the fire.
According to information on the Putnam County Auditor’s Office, the property is owned by Smoke-E’s Bar & Grill LLC and is valued at $61,430. It previously housed the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 9547. It was sold to the current owners in September 2013.
Several fire crews assisted Leipsic in fighting the blaze, including the Ottawa Fire Department, Miller City Fire Department, Gilboa Fire Department, Bluffton Fire Department, Deshler Fire Department, McComb Fire Department, Malinta Fire Department, Henry County Air Trailer, Leipsic EMS, Leipsic Police and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The building to the east, Dulle Chiropractic, sustained minor smoke and water damage. There was no damage to other buildings in the downtown area.
There were no reported injuries.
