ALLIANCE — Pam and Jay Heestand, of Alliance, brought their 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS to The Gary Allen Memorial Classic Car Cruise-In. They have owned this beauty for 16 years.
“We just liked it, and liked the looks of the 1970,” said Heestand.
When thinking of muscle cars, the Chevelle SS stands out in most people’s minds. The 1970 Chevelle SS is one of the most desired muscle cars in Hollywood, too. The car has been featured in movies such as “Jack Reacher,” “John Wick,” “Dazed and Confused” and “The Other Guys.”
The Chevelle was produced by Chevy as a mid-size car from 1964 through 1978. The Chevelle was one of Chevy’s lucrative nameplates. The Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year.
The 1970 Chevelle had a body revision from its predecessor, giving the car body a Coke bottle style. Chevy installed a more powerful engine than its competitors — Buick, Pontiac and Olds — during the 1970 model year.
Heestand modified his Chevelle SS, as his car runs on alcohol. His car features a 468 engine with 862 blower. It is an automatic.
“It’s modified to the hilt,” said Heestand.
While no one is challenging Heestand to a race, he gets his car out to car shows and enjoys driving it on weekends.
