LIMA — The Steering Committee on Racial Injustice and Reform outlined plans Sunday to provide rides to the polls during Ohio’s early voting opportunities.
“We have worked very extensively over the last several weeks of collaborating in and promoting the idea of getting the city of Lima residents registered for the upcoming general election,” said Dr. Willie Heggins, executive director of Heir Force Community School. “Over the next three weeks, we will be offering rides to citizens. We call it Ride to the Polls and we’ll be at four different locations — Furl Williams Apartments, Fourth Street Apartments, Brower Road Apartments and Meat City.”
Several organizations have agreed to help provide transportation for residents, but additional drivers are needed. To volunteer, contact the organization at facebook.com/EveryVoteCountsinLima.
“We have, at this point, about 20 to 25 volunteers, and we’re also encouraging others to join us as far as assisting us in getting individuals to the polls,” Heggins said.
