Here are today’s top stories from The Lima News for Friday, Sept. 17.

Putnam and Mercer counties will remain under Level 3 Red public health alerts for another week, as the two counties lead Ohio in the number of new cases per 100,000 residents reported in the past two weeks. Allen County remains under an orange alert, but has seen increased activity in outpatient visits for COVID-19-like symptoms. Read more.

Two people died Wednesday evening in a shooting at a northern Lima home in what police say appears to be a murder/suicide case. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated Zachary Starr shot his wife, Mikki Starr, before turning the firearm on himself. Both bodies were sent to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for autopsies. Read more.
