Museum docent Missy Bennett and museum educators, Sarah Rish and Lisa Weaver, will introduce a new docent tour script which they have been working on for several months. The new script will be used to help train docents on significant themes relating to the collection and exhibits. Docents will be trained to highlight key information by connecting the economic impact, key people, and technological advancements in each themed area through a more consistent message. New binders with the tour script will be provided to all docents in partnership with Visit Greater Lima and Dominion Energy.
Training will be provided to new docents and will include the new script. After completing the requirements for being a provisional docent (observing docent-led tours, etc.), volunteers may conduct school and adult tours, assist visitors during regular museum hours, and help with crafts and tours in the Children’s Discovery Center. Docents are asked to volunteer at least 60 hours per year.
