Commemorative grave marking ceremonies planned for Saturday


Revolutionary War commemorative grave marking ceremonies: 10 a.m., Joseph Deford, Shannon Cemetery, Jefferson Street, Bluffton; 1 p.m., William Rodgers, Logan Cemetery, 5405 Ream Road, Perry Township; 3:30 p.m. Simon Cochrun, Ash Grove Cemetery, 3075 N. Cable Road, Lima.

ALLEN COUNTY — Three Revolutionary War veterans will be honored Saturday with commemorative grave marking ceremonies sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution with assistance from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the SAR Color Guard and the townships involved.

Events begin at 10 a.m. at the site of Joseph Deford’s gravestone in Shannon Cemetery, Jefferson Street, Bluffton. Parking is available at the City Hall parking lot.

Next is the grave of William Rodgers in Logan Cemetery, 5405 Ream Road, Perry Township. This will begin at about 1 p.m.

The final ceremony is the grave of Simon Cochrun in Ash Grove Cemetery, 3075 N. Cable Road, Lima. This will begin at about 3:30 p.m.

All the programs are open to the public and local and state health department rules concerning social distancing and the wearing of masks in public settings will be followed. The ceremonies will take place rain or shine.
