Van Wert man injured in Wednesday morning crash

VAN WERT — A Van Wert man suffered serious injuries in a Wednesday traffic accident in Van Wert County.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., troopers with the Van Wert post of the Ohio State Highway came upon a crash on U.S. 30 at Richey Road in Van Wert County. They found a car in the median with heavy front-end damage that had struck a guardrail.

The driver of the vehicle, Lucinda Oechsle, 59, of Van Wert, suffered minor injuries while a passenger, Jay Oechsle, 58, of Van Wert, suffered suspected serious injuries, according to a patrol report. Both were transported to Van Wert Health.

Troopers determined that a semi tractor-trailer driven by Greg Gooding, 42, of Carrollton, was westbound on U.S. 30 when Oeschle’s vehicle, which was northbound on Richey Road and had entered the median, attempted to turn west onto the divided highway. Oechsle sideswiped the semi and was pushed into the guard rail.

Oechsle was cited for failure to yield. Gooding was not injured.
