DEFIANCE — Cindy Krumel, of Defiance, owns this 1969 Pontiac Firebird. And make no mistake, it’s all hers. She looked for several years for the perfect car, spending her money that she had saved. Her granddaughter found the Firebird during their annual trip to the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. She has owned it now for three years.
“I was looking for a couple of years and things just fell into place. My husband tried talking me into buying a 1965 GTO. I told him no,” said Krumel.
While disagreeing on which car to purchase, she credits her husband, Dave, for her passion for cars.
“When I first met him, he had a 1968 Chevy Camaro, and I have always loved Pony cars,” said Krumel. “I could not wait until it (Pontiac) was delivered to me. I’ve loved it ever since.”
While the car looks great now, Krumel had to put work into it, along with her husband.
“We kind of restored it from the ground up. We had the motor re-done, pulled the unibody out as it had been wrecked before, worked on the interior and wiring,” said Krumel.
Krumel was there beside her husband working on her car.
“I was out there. I had bruised knuckles from working on it. I wanted to say I worked on it,” said Krumel.
Krumel’s car features a 455 engine and is an automatic.
“It’s real fun to drive,” said Krumel.
Krumel’s husband owns a 1966 Pontiac LeMans and she’s glad that now they each have one to drive. They enjoy taking their cars to cruise-in’s and car shows.
And, Krumel enjoys the caveat that her car has a little more power than his.
“My car is faster than his LeMan’s,” she laughed.
