No one injured in fire at McKinley Street home

BATH TOWNSHIP — No one was hurt in a fire that caused an estimated $6,000 damage to a two-unit rental property Thursday afternoon, according to a press release from the Bath Township Fire Department.

The Bath Township Fire Department responded to the fire at 1203 N. McKinley St., Lima, at 2:46 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the home’s eves. They put the fire out, but there were heat and smoke damage throughout the home. The majority of the fire damage was contained to one bedroom.

The property is owned by Sam Owlsey, of Lima, and was rented by Tia Legg, who wasn’t home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials estimated $1,000 damage to the contents and $5,000 to the structure. Neither the owner nor the renter had insurance, according to the press release. The Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross are assisting the family.

No occupants or fire department personnel were injured. Lima Fire Department and American Township Fire Department assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
