Five hurt, two seriously, in Van Wert crash


VAN WERT — The Van Wert post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash that seriously injured two juveniles.

According to a news release, the crash occurred at 3:34 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 116 and Middle Point Road.

John Bill Jr., 43, of Van Wert, was westbound on Middle Point Road when he failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by a vehicle driven by Edwin Eickholt, 62, of Venedocia, who was heading southeast on state Route 116.

Bill’s vehicle then struck a vehicle driven by Stacy Strick, 55, of Van Wert. She was stopped at the stop sign.

Bill’s vehicle then drove off the left side of the roadway and overturned. The Eickholt vehicle also overturned.

All three drivers were injured and were taken to Van Wert Health.

Two juvenile passengers in the Bill vehicle were transported by helicopter to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo. Both were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
