DELPHOS — Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a crowded party in rural Delphos on Saturday, discovering evidence of underage drinking and drug activity.
Several of the people present were minors who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the raid at a residence at 22384 Carpenter Road, according to Van Wert County Sheriff Tom Riggenbach.
Items seized during the search of the property included suspected marijuana, suspected LSD, suspected psychedelic mushrooms, THC vapes and cartridges, edible THC products, suspected drug proceeds and two handguns with loaded magazines.
The search warrant was the result of an investigation into alleged underage consumption/drug activity at the property following numerous complaints about illegal activity taking place at the location. Riggenbach said at the time the search warrant was executed, a party of approximately 150 to 200 people were found on the property. Alcoholic beverages and evidence of drug use were present in the building where the party was taking place.
Deputies identified more than 90 underage people under the influence of alcohol. Several of them were juveniles under the age of 18. Deputies conducted portable breath tests and field sobriety tests on the individuals. A large number of attendees over the age of 21 were identified and released.
Riggenbach said the investigation is continuing, and all charges will be sent to the law director for review. He said a nuisance abatement letter would be sent to the property owner to make him aware of what occurred on this property. Riggenbach said the law does allow for the seizure of property, if the property owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue within their property.
