LIMA — After more than 30 years as a registered pharmacist, Denise May decided to take a risk and open her own practice. She’s now celebrating her one-year anniversary in business at Leahy Family Pharmacy, a family owned practice located along Cable Road.
The practice is small, but that’s how May likes it.
“This has always been my first love,” she said. “Small retail’s been my first love.”
May, an Ohio Northern University graduate, was inspired to return to small retail after spending years working for large chain pharmacies, where the pace was so fast, she says she had little time to get to know her patients.
“Sometimes, I think you lose your reason why you’re doing this job when you work in that environment,” she said. “You have to pull back and go, I’m here to help the patient. I need to talk to the patient.”
